The hospital, in Carlisle city centre, offers specialties including cosmetic surgery, dernmatology, general surgery, orthopaedicsand a range of complementary therapies. A day ward caters for those staying less than four hours.
The hospital offers 55 registered beds, and 3 operating theatres, one of which has laminar flow. This is a clean air system, which reduces the risk of infection during operations. There is always at least one member of staff on site with current Advanced Life Support training at any one time. A wide range of diagnostic imaging services is available. These include, permanent MRI and CT scanners, as well as ultrasound, x-ray and bone densitometry. The hospital provides surgical services for both breast and bowel cancer, although neither unit is BUPA-approved at present. Chemotherapy is also available to treat the disease, and palliative care services available for patients whose illness is terminal. The hospital offers a range of physiotherapy services, including specialist treatment for sports injuries. There is a gymnasium on site to help with patient rehabilitation and hydrotherapy is available.
The hospital has a BUPA approved breast cancer unit. It has a new oncology centre and offers a range of cancer treatments. The hospital also has new sports massage therapy service. No heart services are offerred apart from exercise ECG. Paediatric surgery is backed up by at least four staff trained in advanced life-support for children on duty at all times, and a minimum of two for adult critical care. This represents one of the highest levels of critical-care cover in the private sector.
Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre is a purpose built hospital serving the populations of South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. The Treatment Centre focuses on providing specialist orthopaedic services. The hospital is run by Care UK, an independent company providing services to NHS patients. It is a newly-built, 46-bed orthopaedic centre, with three theatres, and opened in July 2005. It performs over 3,000 surgical procedures a year, made up mainly of knee and hip replacements, shoulder and lower back surgery plus minor orthopaedic cases.

BMI Albyn Hospital in Aberdeen is a 44-bed private facility. It has two major operating theatres and caters for a wide range of surgical and medical procedures including cosmetic surgery. The hospital also offers treatment for cancer, including breast and bowel cancer, in addition to providing a one-stop breast care clinic. Paediatric facilities are available for children aged 3 and over and the wards are permanently staffed with nurses holding Paediatric Advanced Life Support training. The hospital also offers a full range of physiotherapy services with a dedicated clinic available for patients with sports injuries.
