Leicester Royal Infirmary is close to Leicester city centre and has more than 1000 beds. It is one of three hospitals that make up University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, which also includes Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital. The Trust, known as Leicester Hospitals, is rated excellent for the quality of services by the Healthcare Commission, putting them top of the league for large acute teaching trusts in the country.
QMS is a local district general hospital providing excellent health care to the people of Bexley and neighbouring boroughs. 60% of Bexley's residents rely on Queen Mary's hospital for acute medical services. Our natural catchment population is 300,000, extending to the boroughs of Greenwich, Bromley and Dartford.
The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is part of The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which was originally formed in 1991 and became a foundation Trust in April, 2005. As well as being an acute hospital, rehabilitation and care of the elderly facilities are also provided. At Christchurch Hospital the stroke rehabilitation unit is known nationally for its work with stroke patients. It achieved Beacon Status in 2000 and in 2005 received PDU (Practice Development Unit) accreditation. Recently at the Royal Bournemouth, a new state-of-the-art cardiac unit has opened which has expanded capacity for coronary angiography and provided two new services - coronary angioplasty and electrophysiology. The hospital also has a state-of-the-art scanner suite with four scanners providing faster diagnosis and treatment for patients with a wide range of diseases.
The Spire Alexandra Hospital is a private facility with 40 beds. It has two major operating theatres and a dedicated Endoscopy suite The hospital has BUPA approved surgical services for breast and colorectal and Gynae cancers. It does not, however, offer chemotherapy, radiotherapy or palliative care. The hospital does not perform surgery on children under three, but it does operate on children from three to 16 years of age. There are always at least two members of staff with Paediatric Advanced Life Support Training on site at any one time.
